23rd Meeting of KMU Academic Council held

The 23rd meeting of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar Academic Council was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, whereas Registrar KMU Prof. Dr, Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, heads of various institutions and members of the academic council attended the meeting. Additional Director Academic Muhammad Islam welcomed the participants and presented agenda items in the meeting. In the said meeting 11 agenda items were discussed in detail and recommended for onward approved of the competent forums. 
The Chief Executive Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Peshawar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif, presented the curriculum of the Advance Fellowships in  Burn, Pediatric Neuro-Surgery, Head & Neck Surgery, Sports Surgery, Otology and Rhinology programs for consideration of the council. The subject experts briefed the need analysis of these programs. The council principally agreed to start these Advance Fellowship Programs and directed the PGMI to proceed for further curriculum development activities and to prepare for the inspection of KMU and Pakistan Medical Commission.  
The council has principally approved the “Visiting Faculty Appointment Rules, 2021” along with teaching agreement. The council was of the view that certain responsibilities as well as decisions are best handled at the Institute level and therefore, the power of appointment of visiting faculty shall be delegated to the dean / director. The council principally agreed that the dean on the recommendation of head of constitution institution shall appoint the visiting faculty as per rules and shall be responsible with regard to the entire aspects of appointment and remuneration. The council also approved establishment of remote campuses along with seats allocation of KMU at Islamabad, Swat, Swabi, Kurram, Lakki Marwat and Bajuar. 
In the meeting it was decided that the standard and quality of KMU research journals will not be compromised and timely publication will be ensured at all cost. The meeting also decided for merger of Health Profession Education Journal into the research journal of Basic Medical Sciences. It was also unanimously decided that no any further concession would be allowed in terms of HEC specified time frame i-e maximum 8 years to the PhD scholars of all disciplines.
Meanwhile, talking to the council the vice chancellor appreciated the role of academic section for smooth functioning of the academic affairs and hoped that decision taken in the 23rd meeting would be implemented in true spirit. He stressed the head of constituent institutions to focus on launch of postgraduate programs at main campus while focus on undergraduate programs at regional campuses. He also advised that all the regional institutes shall bear the name prefix as “KMU Institute of Health Sciences” with “name of city” as suffix.
