KMU Academic Council approves new courses

Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar announced four new courses in various disciplines at different levels; these courses were approved in 6th meeting of the KMU Academic Council. This meeting was held here at IBMS under the chairman ship of VC KMU Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah.

            According to details the Academic Council after thorough discussions had given approval of  Master Program in Physical Therapy(MSPT) in two disciplines i.e Musculoskeletal and Neurological Physiotherapy, Master in Public Health(MPH) with specialization in Maternal & Child Health(MNCH) and Non Communicable Diseases(NCDS) and a six months certificate program in Health Professions Education (CHPE).

                The MSPT program will provide physiotherapy graduates with advanced, specialized training in respective disciplined of physiotherapy. The program has been designed to meet both national and international standards fulfilling criteria for further education and job opportunities. Both courses are designed to enable full time study over two years period.

            The MNCH program at the Institute of Public Health and Social Sciences (IPH&SS) is a MPH program focuses on current health problems and diseases affecting both women and children worldwide with special emphasize on in developing countries including Pakistan. Students will become acquainted with the epidemiology of women and childhood diseases. The MNCH program is designed to train individuals to become responsible and productive public health professionals with an emphasis on MNCH problems.   

            The Masters in Public Health (NCDS) program offered by IPH&SS is a two years degree program. The goal of MPH (NCDS) Program is to provide an introduction to the key areas and methods in epidemiology of non communicable diseases. The duration of MPH (NCDs) Program will be two years. The program will be consisting of four (04) semesters.

            The CHPE is a six months certificate program in Health Professions which has been specially designed to fulfill the educational needs of the medical teachers in Pakistan and expose them to the basic and applied concepts of medical education. The program provides an opportunity to teacher doctors to learn basic knowledge about teaching and learning, communication skills, the use of information technology in teaching and learning.

            The Academic Council also approved Equivalence Committee, Plagiarism Committee, Institutional Graduate Study Committee and Institutional Board of Studies (BOS) for all its constituent institutions. Academic Council also recommended regulations regarding convocation to KMU Syndicate for approval.
