KMU AND AIMS PAKISTAN SIGNED MOU

Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar and AIMS Pakistan (Diabetes Hospital & Research Centre Hayatabad, Peshawar) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize collaborative partnership between the two parties to provide an equal opportunity to local population for Diabetes, Hypertension and Non Communicable Disease screening and quality care under the umbrella of multidisciplinary team through concept of family medicine.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid Vice Chancellor KMU and Dr. Zia ul Hassan President AIMS Pakistan on behalf of their respectable organizations at KMU, Peshawar. The MoU will valid for a period of three years unless otherwise agreed mutually for early termination.

According to the terms of reference AIMS Pakistan will provide clinics, personnel, logistic and any other support and assistance required within the premises of the hospital situated in Phase V Hayatabad, Peshawar where as KMU- Institute of Public Health & Social Sciences will provide clinical services, implement the concept of family medicines and help in establishing AIMS as a research and training facility. Both the parties will support each other towards the common goals of patient care, work in a harmonious manner and appreciate each other’s role and contributions toward quality services. Conflicts if any shall be amicably resolved through mutual dialogue between the parties or by appointing a mutually agreed arbiter. Each party will be required to serve a formal notice of one moth on the other in case any of them want to terminate the understanding prematurely.

Meanwhile talking to CME Seminar on “Insulin Treatment” organized by AIMS Sugar Hospital, Diabetes Association KP and Eli Lily in collaboration with KMU, Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid, VC KMU said that in the current prevalence rates of diabetes far exceed the TB, it goes without saying that if we fail to control the diabetes outbreak, the country may pose problems in TB control also, because, diabetes as a multi-system resistance lowering disease will only rejuvenate the TB epidemic.

Earlier Dr. Zia-ul-Hasan, President AIMS Pakistan presented an overview of the AIMS Sugar Hospital's diabetes cycle of care and the community care model ASTER signifying awareness, screening, tests, empowerment and referral as key elements of their indigenous model.#
