KMU HOLDS 4TH CONVOCATION

Secretary to Health Department Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Abid Majeed has said that today indeed a unique occasion where the dreams of the graduated students have been realized, prayers of parents have been answered, and the hard work of the faculty has culminated in a tangible outcome in the shape of  graduation in various fields. “I must congratulate the proud parents whose dreams have come true in the form of graduated children wearing the black robs in front of them and whose prays and hardwork make you all to achieve this high standard of being starting a successful professional life”, he was talking as chief guest to 4th convocation of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar. Beside others Vice Chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmad, Registrar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, Deans, Faculties, heads of constituent institutes and a large number of the graduated students and their parents were also present at the occasion.

 

Mr. Abid Majeed urged the graduated students that it is their duty to serve the humanity and in doing so they will need to excel further in their careers. But in such pursuits they should not forget the Oath they took today. He added that our health professionals second to none when it comes to professional credentials and are able to deliver the best medical care which is vouched by the fact that they are a popular commodity abroad. The behavior, medical and other staff in dealing with patients and their relatives is probably the biggest determinant. We need to improve it and hugely too if our desire is that our people should keep faith in the medical profession. Medical ethics is a well-established discipline, which the graduated students should learn and practice in accordance with the principles of ethics known as: autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance, and justice, he added.

 

Earlier while talking to the convocation VC KMU Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid has said that the oath that the graduates took today puts a great responsibility on them, towards their fellow human beings. They as health professionals represent the cream of the society, and people look up to them as role models, so it is of utmost importance that they act like a role model.

 

He said that he had a very clear vision when he joined KMU as the Vice-Chancellor, of course, that vision included making KMU a great seat of knowledge generation and transfer, but most importantly that vision entailed the establishment of the KMU identity and instilling into our graduates. “Your degrees should not be just a means to get a good job in the market, rather the means to be a good human being who can be of service to the society”, he added.

 

Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid said that KMU was the fourth best ranked Medical University in Pakistan and our aim is to make it the best medical university and for it to assume a leadership role in health professionals education in the country. He said that KMU has taken a leadership role to be the first in the country to offer a postgraduate program in family medicine in the days to come. Our basic science, health professions, and the allied sciences research are also thriving and our research output has considerably increased over the last twelve months. We are collaborating with scientific societies and sister institutions to make KMU a center of knowledge dissemination in addition to a source of knowledge generation.

 

It is worth mentioning that in the said convocation there were 214 degrees conferred upon graduated students of various disciplines including one PhD in Pharmacology, 21 MPhil in different subjects of Basic Sciences, 04 MPH, 01 MSc Epidemiology & Bio Statistics, 03 MHPE, 22 MBBS, 29 BDS, 01 MSPT, 29 DPT,  24 BS Nursing and 54 students of BS paramedics were awarded with degrees, whereas 69 gold medals were also awarded to students of various programs. In the MBBS program Mr. Ijaz Ahmed Khan  of KMU-IMS Kohat was awarded as best graduate with 09 gold medals whereas Miss. Sobia Awais of KIDS Kohat was conferred with 11 gold medals as best graduate in BDS program. In the convocation Ex VC KMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah for his tireless and valuable services for KMU was also awarded with life time achievement award.
