KMU Senate 12th MEETING

The 12th meeting of KMU Senate was held under the chairmanship of Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, the Honourable Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa/Chancellor, Khyber Medical University, Peshawar on 08-08-2018 in the Governor’s House, Peshawar.

In his welcome remarks Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, the Honourable Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that KMU being the sole public sector medical university of the province had heavy responsibilities to coup with the health related issues confronting by the society in shape of communicable and non communicable diseases. He stressed that result oriented research should be the main focus of the University’s academic programs besides imparting quality education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He appreciated the role of KMU for bringing all health professions under one roof and being developing a comprehensive health care education system at various levels. “I feel delighted to see the medical education institutions like KMU, are making vital progress in imparting quality education with special focus on research and development”, he added.

Earlier, while presenting annual report to the Senate the Vice Chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Arshad javaid said that KMU is a well-recognized University in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across the country because of its innovative programs in the area of medical and allied health sciences. KMU nurtures competence through learning and innovation to prepare visionary leaders across all fields to optimize health and health care of individuals and communities. He elaborated that in the area of research more than 35 research grants of more than 65 million Rupees have been achieved by the faculty of KMU from National and International organizations. KMU organized two international and two national conferences in the year 2017-2018. There are more than 194 research articles in high impact factor journals have been published.

 

Later on the house discussed the recommendation made by the Finance & Planning Committee in its 21st meeting held on 08-05-2018 endorsed by the Syndicate in its 28th meeting held on 15-05-2018. Regarding, PhD Retention Allowance, the House agreed with the proposal that the KMU shall take up the case with the Provincial Government through a self contained summary. The Senate after lengthy discussion accorded approval for the KMU Revised Estimates 2017-18 and surplus Budget Estimates for the financial year 2018-19.

 

After detailed deliberations, the house also accorded approval for the Minutes of 2nd and 3rd meeting of the Anomaly Committee duly endorsed by the Syndicate in its 28th meeting held on 15-05-2018 except for the point of eligibility criteria for the faculty positions for the Health Profession Education which is subjudice in the honourable Peshawar High Court, Peshawar. The meeting ended with vote of thanks.
