President PDMC Inaugurates KMU 6th Annual International Medical Education Conference

President Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) Islamabad, Justice (Rtd) Mian Shakir Ullah Jan has said that PM&DC is boldly dealing with all of its issues and will continuously strive to improve and live up to the expectations of medical and dental professionals of Pakistan and to be able to equip Pakistani graduates with latest medical knowledge and skills. The newly constituted council of PM&DC is focused to achieve its journey of revolution in medical education and is destined to improve healthcare delivery to the community through best health practices and quality medical education; he was talking as chief guest to the inaugural ceremony of 6th Annual International conference on medical education organized by Khyber Medical University Institute of Health Profession Education & Research (KMU-IHPE&R).

                                                         

President PM&DC Justice (Rtd) Mian Shakir Ullah Jan said that PM&DC has started working on a number of initiatives in order to reform the regulatory mechanisms to streamline the processes in accordance with the direction of Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan. He said that this conference perhaps has come at a very fortunate time, as the PM&DC is in the process of reforms in medical curricula and introducing a series of educational interventions, aimed at the improvement of medical education in Pakistan.

 

While appreciating the role of KMU being a sole medical university of the province the president PM&DC said that the progress KMU has made in the recent past is impressive and its vision, to launch more postgraduate programs and to look into introducing modular teaching system across all its affiliated colleges, which perhaps would be a huge success story.He hoped that this conference will provide a professional platform to the educationists of both the national and international stature to share their professional skills, expertise and achievements with the wider medical education community.

 

President PM&DC said, “He admit that with the professional help and guidance of the Vice Chancellor of public sector medical universities of all the four provinces and federal capital territory, they will succeed in streamlining the direction of PM&DC in the interest of medical and dental education profession in the country.

 

While talking to the conference Vice Chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid said that KMU has completed its 11 years journey with a vision “Committed to Excellence in Medical Education & Research”, and the university has stood by its vision and investing in medical education & research in the past decade. KMU has not only provided scholarships for Doctorates in Medical Education from the World’s leading universities but also developed the Institute of Health Professions Education & Research to provide a venue, and a think tank to promote medical education in the province and Pakistan.

 

He said that in the Pre Conference workshops more than 400 experts participated and the key note speakers talked on a wide range of topics such as curriculum development, assessment, learning & teaching, professionalism & ethics, educational psychology and counseling.

Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid said that health is the most effective part of life and if we can’t equipped with the modern technologies and required skills we could not be able to meet the future challenges. Pakistan being a rapidly developing nation has the potential to become leader of the World as presently we stood at 5th position by producing highly qualified doctors at global level, he added. Former VC KMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Daud Khan, Director WHO EMRO Prof. Dr. Gohar Wajid and Director IHPE&R  Dr. Usman Mehboob also talked to the inaugural ceremony.
