KMU Health Research Conference 2012 begins
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah Vice Chancellor (VC) Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar has said KMU was keenly addressing the lack of capacity as well as research related issues by focusing on research oriented training opportunities in our various institutions through Bachelor, Master, M.Phil and PhD programs, he was talking as chief guest to the inaugural session of three days annual health research conference 2012 at IBMS, Hayatabad Peshawar. Dr. Fazal Mahmood, Registrar, Prof. Dr. Shad Mohammad Director Academics, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Tasleem Akhtar and Director Research Prof. Dr. Mukahtiar Zaman were also present at the occasion. A large number of faculty, Researchers and students were also attended the inaugural session.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah said Research is an integral part of higher education and its due importance cannot be ignored especially in health education. He said KMU is focusing on research oriented activities and it is the base line of all of our educational programs. Prof. Hafizullah while highlighting the importance of research has said, KMU is offering a unique program of health research capacity building to strengthen and institutionalize health research in the academic institutions and health care system of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The University organizes annual conference to further enhance the effectiveness of the program and to create a forum for the presentation of health research done in the province on regular basis since 2009.
The research value base at KMU is reflective of its social and contractual accountability to the diverse cultures of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and targets areas that have direct relevance to community and health professionals needs, he added. He highlighted that the purpose of this conference is not only to showcase the research conducted so far but more over to inculcate the research culture among the students and faculty of undergraduate and postgraduate institutions.
While updating the audience on KMU achievements the VC said KMU’s six years journey of success is going on but we should remember that six years are not a long period for building a University and we are heading towards right direction through a natural process. He said with seven constituent institutes i.e IPM&R, IPH&SS, KIMS, KINS, IBMS, IHPE, IPMS and MHR and 26 affiliated institutions, KMU is gaining momentum and hopefully in the near future this University will become a become of height for the whole region.
Prof. Hafizullah said establishment of Institute of Hematology, Institute of Diabetes, Institute of Pulmonology, Research Institute of communicable diseases and Institute of human genetics are our future plans and with the passage of time and with the availability of source these plans would be materialized. He further said that focused on higher education and research is not only the need of the hour but it is also important to our come the disease burden and health related issues of the general public. Through combination of PhD, MHPE and MHR we shall be able to produce a brilliant and ideal combination of health profession.
Prof. Emirates Dr. Tasleem Akhtar, Prof. Dr. Mukahtiar Zaman Director Research and Deputy Director Research Dr. Zeeshan Kiberia also spoke to the inaugural session. It is worth mentioning that the same conference would be continue for three days and the concluding session would be held on Sunday at IBMS Phase-6 Hayatabd Peshawar
